DION THE ROCK N ROLL YEARS !
RECENT REVIEW IN THE TENERIFE NEWS
Scene Around-Dion – entertainment at its very best
Dion has always worked in the south of the island and regularly delights both residents and visitors with his excellent show. Residents in the north of Tenerife who used to listen to Dion’s radio programme on weekend afternoons will be interested to know that the experience on radio is cleverly translated into a stage show. Talk about entertainment to anyone and Dion’s name will crop up within minutes – he is definitely one of the cabaret artistes respected by others in the trade.
He came to Tenerife in 1993 and began his act a year later. In the UK he worked as an engineer but had always had a great interest in music and sang; his main interest was – and still is – fifties and sixties music. He would play his parents’ rock and roll records over and over again and learned all he could about that particular era. He has been on various radio stations with his fast-moving radio show which has proved to be very popular. EIGHT years ago he married Sharon and they now have two beautiful children, Ryan and Aiyanna.
His cabaret show is fast, furious and very entertaining; the content is so interesting that the whole audience becomes involved; music is common to us all and when it is presented with such enthusiasm and obvious love and knowledge about the fifties and sixties it is definitely infectious. Over the last twelve or thirteen years I have seen and talked to Dion on many occasions, watched his act, his changing persona and the improvement and polish he has put into the show he produces and in particular the sound. He is a singer, yet he is not; he is a comedian, but not deliberately. He is a master of his art, the show opens with a bang and the high is sustained right up to the very last minute. Holidaymakers must go home remembering the night they saw him as one of the highlights of their holiday.
He asks a few quiz questions, sings songs to remind us of days we cherished, voices from the past, stories about them and their lives – altogether creating a wonderful friendly and memorable atmosphere, ending with a great Elvis take-off. He revives all this at every venue he works, and he works very hard.
Dion is a happy family man, always very positive; he lifts his audiences and those with whom he comes into contact in a great way and is always the professional.
